Who are Vinyl Tap Really??

So you want to know the real story then?.....Oh alright

Vinyl Tap were formed in 1991 by a group of four experienced musicians who were fed up with taking themselves seriously and decided to have a laugh instead. As a by-product of this they found that they gave the people who came to watch them what they wanted as well, a good time and a hell of a party.

All four members of the group were, and still are, big fans of the classic spoof rock band movie Spinal Tap and so it seemed apt to base the band loosely along the lines of the film. Vinyl Tap was born.

Vinyl Tap surprised us and surpassed our expectations we went from playing to bar staff with our previous original music bands to playing to huge crowds and packed venues. We fulfilled our guitar hero fantasies, wore lots of spandex, set off smoke alarms with our pyrotechnics. During the roller coaster journey we got offered supports with Deep Purple, asked on the Big Breakfast and and played in the snow in Santa outfits. We were (and still are) listed as an entry in the Official Book of the Movie, "The Spinal Tap Companion" as the original Spinal Tap tribute Band. I think they sold two copies at least as both Randy and I have one - maybe the author's mother bought one too.

Marriages and children came along and the time for the rapidly dwindled and we decided to tale a short break which turned into a medium break then a long one of nearly ten years.

Over those ten years three of the original members stayed firm friends and still occasionally played in local bands together and the odd festival (some of them were very odd!) Vinyl Tap was something we knew would always return at the right moment and that time is now. (early 2009 as I write).

As mentioned before, the aim of Tap is for the band and the people who come along to see them to have a laugh and a good time and so Vinyl Tap play the best classic rock that everbody knwos and loves. From the first to the last number our aim is to get everyone up and jumping and includes, varying from one gig to another, just about every classic rock and rock and roll number you can imagine from the sixties to the nineties witha few Spinal Tap classics thrown in as well - well we have to really don't we!

Vinyl Tap believe in a giving a complete show so they don't hold back when it comes to the sound and look of a classic rock band. They play in the full costume of a classic eighties heavy rock band – just imagine Whitesnake or Motley Crue or Iron Maiden and you’ll get the picture, they have a full professional PA system, lights, smoke machines, backdrop and the best equipment. There's a few added stage extras for the Spinal Tap experience as well depending on the size of venue.

The aim of Vinyl Tap is to give the biggest and best show that is possible all the time.
